How many books could you read in the time you spend on your phone? (infographic)

Aren’t you spending a little too much time on your smartphone? Aren’t you reaching for it a bit too often?

Music Magpie, a marketplace for music lovers, has prepared an infographic that shows how much time we spend on the phone monthly – and how many novels we could read instead.

On average the monthly time spent on certain phone activities reaches 120 hours. If you stopped using your phone completely, you’d read 24 novels per month!

We’re all guilty of spending a little too much time on our smartphones. With just the slightest compromise on your app-trawling habits, you’d be amazed how fast you could get through your book bucket list.

It’s obvious that social media takes the most of the time. In 23 hours devoted to exploring Twitter or Facebook, an average smartphone user could read five novels, including Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Come on, you can do it. Place a book reading app next to your Twitter or Facebook icon and try to devote 10 minutes a day to reading an ebook instead of going down the social timeline.

10 minutes a day for reading a book could make 5 hours per month! It’s enough to finish J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye or The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

If you, however, think a novel is too long for you, you can try reading short books, for instance, the ones you’ll read in under an hour each.

Make sure to see the original infographic on Music Magpie. Click or tap the infographic to see it enlarged.

How to configure your Chromebook for ultimate security

A Chromebook is already an ultra-secure computer straight out of the box. Because it doesn’t run a traditional operating system and takes advantage of various Google-powered security measures, Chrome OS is well-guarded against the evils lurking out there on the web.

But you can always do more, particularly if you want to minimize traces of your Internet wanderings, or prevent your every online action from contributing to an advertising profile.

You may share a Chromebook with others or desire a setup that’s impervious to the latest security threats. Perhaps it’s time for a little de-Googling in your life, as the Mountain View giant can collect a lot of information about you.

Whatever your reasons, here are some ways to fortify your Chromebook’s security structure.

Own your Google security

Chrome OS benefits from Google’s ongoing security efforts to identify malicious websites and sandbox each browser tab so one site can’t take down your whole computer.

Good security starts with you and how you manage your own data. In this case, it means ensuring that you’ve properly secured your own Google account. Because it’s the major gate to your Chromebook, you should have a solid password and use Google’s two-factor authentication. This generates a text message or a code through the Google Authenticator app that is required for any new login.

In your Chromebook settings, you can tweak a number of different features. For maximum security, restrict sign-in to just your account (below).

Your Chromebook gives you complete control over who can be granted access.

This means no one else can sign in and use your Chromebook. Nosy relatives or miscreant youth will be denied at every turn.

If others are determined to use your Chromebook, you can at least assert a little more control. Create a supervised profile that lets you see which websites have been visited by other profiles, block extensions, and change other settings. To do this, go to Settings > Manage other users > Enable supervised users.

Furthermore, if you’re going to loan your Chromebook to someone else or plan to resell it, there’s a very easy method to wipe off your data. Use the Powerwash feature in Settings > Show Advanced Settings > Powerwash.

Leave no trace

You’ve probably had the experience of checking out, say, a new tent on Amazon, and then suddenly ads for that sleeping shelter appear on every site you visit.

You can stop the madness. Consider a VPN if you want to mask your browsing from your internet service provider or other prying eyes. TunnelBear is an excellent option for the Chromebook for a couple of reasons.

First, TunnelBear offers a Chrome extension, whereas many other VPNs require a client for Windows or macOS. Additionally, Chromebooks with the Google Play Store can install the TunnelBear Android app.

Derek Walter/IDG
TunnelBear is an excellent and easy-to-use VPN.

Another avenue to explore is a privacy-focused extension like Privacy Badger, an extension from the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The extension blocks trackers, though you’re able to accept some cookies or whitelist specific sites. From time to time I’ve found that it can make a site’s performance a little wonky, so expect to hit a few bumps on the road.

Chrome will give you the goods on cookies and other permissions requested by each site you visit.

Another helpful extension from the EFF privacy advocates is HTTPS Everywhere. Once you install this to Chrome, the browser will force a secure connection to all the sites you visit on the Web. Even though Google and others have made a huge push to make HTTPS the default connection, nonsecure sites persist.

Also, keep a careful eye on your extensions. Google has been busy recently ramping up the security it does in vetting the extensions you can install in Chrome. However, it’s best to stick to extensions from reputable companies. Check the reviews in the Chrome Web Store as well to see what others have to say.

Back off on the Google

Maybe you want to give Google a little less information to go on about you (all those details can lead to some interesting results). One solution is to switch your default search provider to DuckDuckGo. It’s a privacy-focused search engine that doesn’t track your search history.

DuckDuckGo is a search engine focused on privacy.

To do this, go to DuckDuckGo, right-click in the address bar, and select Edit Search Engines. Then from the list of search engines, click the Make default button next to DuckDuckGo. Now when you type a search query in Chrome, it will be powered by the quacky search engine that keeps your secrets safe.

Chrome’s Guest Mode enables you to browse with Chrome without attaching any of the history to your Google account. All you need to do is sign out of your current session and log in as a guest. It’s perfect for when you don’t want your browsing history to follow you around for all time.

Going darker

You can further minimize Google’s hold on your personal information by turning off autofill and automatic sync in Chrome. While the autofill feature is definitely convenient, you may not want to have this feature ready to put in your name, address, email, and more in online form. Killing off sync means your search history and other preferences will remain local to that machine.

Go to Settings > Advanced Sync Settings and uncheck the Autofill box. If you like the convenience of synced data and passwords, but just don’t want to give it to Google, consider a password manager.

Manage your sync settings to keep tabs on your past Internet usage.

To go deep into the privacy woods, you can switch up your DNS server to a provider that won’t log or retain these lookups. By default, your administrator or Internet service provider may retain this information.

To change the DNS settings on your Chromebook, first head to the the Chrome menu, choose Settings > Internet Connection , then click your network name.

Then head to the Network tab and choose Custom name servers. You can enter in the following details from DNS Watch, which advocates for data privacy. Enter for server 1, and for server 2. Choose Disconnect. Then, select the network again and choose Connect. This will change the switchboard from sending your traffic through your ISP.

While your Chromebook is already about as secure a computer as you can get, it can’t hurt to go the extra mile. with a few strategic moves, your Chromebook will be impervious to the wild woods of the web.

15 cases for Amazon Fire HD 8 (2017) that combine functionality with style

We maintain this blog by recommending products on the web. If you buy an item by following the links in this post, we may get a small share of the revenue.

In the list below, you’ll find the best cases for your new Fire HD 8 tablet. They combine functionality and trendy style with the affordable price.

In June 2017, Amazon released four new tablets. One of them is the 7th-generation Fire HD 8.

Although Amazon calls the recently-released model “all-new,” you won’t find remarkable improvements. Maybe this is the reason the 2017 model costs only $79.99 – $10 cheaper than the predecessor.

When it comes to tech specs, it’s basically the same device. It has the 8-inch 1280×800 screen (189 ppi) and is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. You can choose from two storage options: 16 GB or 32 GB. What’s important, there is a slot for micro SD card, so that you can expand memory by extra 256 GB.

The biggest visual change is the selection of colors. All Amazon Fire tablets released in 2017 are available in colors different from the ones so characteristic for the 2015 range.

The new colors are bright and warm. You can choose, besides Black, from Canary Yellow, Marine Blue, and Punch Red.

When picking up the case, it’s important to double-check which generation of the tablet model the particular case fits.

The worst mistake you can make is to buy the beautiful case that fits the previous generation – but not the current one. You may realize the cutouts in the plastic shell don’t match the position of the buttons. Or the camera that’s covered by the plastic.

It’s also good to know the dimensions of your new devices. That’s particularly helpful when you decide to buy a sleeve on Etsy, there all items are made to order. Giving the dimensions to Etsy shop owner when placing an order will guarantee you’ll receive the sleeve perfectly fitting your device.

Fire HD 8 dimensions ( height × width × depth )

Model Inches Millimeters
Amazon Fire HD 8 (2017) 8.4 × 5.0 × 0.4 214 × 128 × 9.7
Amazon Fire HD 8 (2016) 8.4 × 5.0 × 0.4 214 × 128 × 9.2
Amazon Fire HD 8 (2015) 8.4 × 5.0 × 0.3 214 × 128 × 7.7

When you compare the dimensions of the 2016 and 2017 Fire HD 8, you may say “bingo, they are the same!” Yes, the width and height are the same, but what makes the difference is the depth.

The Fire HD 8 released in 2017 is 0.5 mm thicker than its predecessor. Therefore, the cases with plastic back shells are useless.

There is still a chance to utilize the old cover that uses elastic corner straps to hold the device in place. However, you may find it difficult to put the 2017 model inside. Remember, it’s thicker, not thinner, than the 2016 Fire.

Where to buy covers for Fire HD 8, 2017 release?

Do you want to see more cases and sleeves for your new Fire HD 8? Amazon is a major source of accessories for their own devices, but it’s not the only web destination where you can get premium and unique items at affordable prices:

Amazon – You’ve searched the site already, right? We advise to do it again – and search all departments, not only the section with Fire cases and accessories. Thousands of results will appear, many with a high number of positive reviews.

eBay – a proven place to shop for affordable cases. The number of available designs and colors is smaller, but the cases can be bought at lower – sometimes much lower – prices.

Rakuten – formerly, the site is one of the largest online stores. The sellers are different than on Amazon or eBay, so if you haven’t found the perfect case on these two sites, give Rakuten a try.

Etsy – this is our favorite marketplace for custom items, hand-crafted to order. You won’t find here the book-style folio case for Fire 7, but will be amazed to discover tons of unique, colorful sleeves that will suit different tastes and needs.

Are there any Amazon Fire HD 8 (2017) cases you’d like to add to this overview? Reach us on social media and share links to your favorite designs.

15 best Amazon Fire HD 8 (2017) cases and sleeves

MoKo Amazon Fire HD 8 (2017) Folding Folio Stand. From MoKo, one of our favorite providers of cases and accessories, comes a standing folio cover designed specifically for the 2017 Amazon Fire HD 8.

The case is made from a durable polyurethane leather (outside) and a microfiber (inside) to give a durable and versatile protection. It supports auto wake/sleep function, features the magnetic clasp, stylus loop, and has a built-in stand. A hand strap lets you comfortably use the tablet with one hand.

MoKo Folio Stand comes in almost thirty colors and designs. Some of them we’ve seen in the previous-generation Fire HD 8, but there are a few new ones, including Propitious Clouds, shown above. ⇢ Amazon – $18.99.

Fintie Amazon Fire HD 8 2017 Folio Stand Cover. What makes this case different from other folio stand covers is a large outside pocket where you can place documents, bills, sticky notes, or a library card.

Besides that, the folio from Fintie has a built-in stand with three viewing angles and the magnetic strip that allows for support of the auto sleep/wake function.

It’s worth noting that this particular case holds the device in place using a faux leather frame. Thanks to that the case works well with three generations of Fire HD 8 tablet: 2015, 2016, and 2017.

There are thirteen color options to choose from, including Blossom (shown above), Love Tree, and Moroccan Love. ⇢ Amazon – $17.99.

Swees Slim Protective Case for Fire HD 8 2017. If you are looking for the unique design or pattern, the largest number of options is available on the standard tri-fold case cover.

Tri-fold cases share the same features, no matter which brand they come from. They can be folded to form a horizontal or vertical stand. They support wake/sleep function and feature a solid plastic back shell. Most importantly – they are the lightest available option at hand, much lighter than popular folio cases.

The only differentiation point is the design and I’m sure in the range from Swees you’ll find something that will catch your attention. There are fifteen color/design options to choose from. The one presented above is Elf Tree. ⇢ Amazon – $13.99.

Garunk Slim Tri-fold Amazon Fire HD 8 2017 Cover. If you are still not satisfied with the choice of patterns and designs, you can browse the collection from Garunk.

Among the offered variants, we love Magic Tree (featured above). Take a look at Magic Cube, one of the most popular designs for cases. Romantic Road, Flame Skeleton, and Blue Wings are also worth recommending. ⇢ Amazon – $13.99.

MoKo Slim Shell Stand for Fire HD 8 (2017). MoKo again, and again the pattern that’s trendy this year: Ocean. Just like any other tri-fold case, it offers auto sleep/wake support, built-in stand, and easy access to all ports and buttons.

What makes this case special is the back shell. Most other producers offer the plastic shell in the color of the case. MoKo decided to go with fully transparent plastic. Great idea! if you buy the Fire HD 8 in your favorite color (let’s say it’s Canary Yellow), you can still see it with the case on.

Now, the thrill is what color and pattern of the case to pick up to go well with the color of the tablet. And there are over twenty variants at hand. Our favorite ones are Peach Blossom and School of Fish. ⇢ Amazon – $17.99.

Fintie Amazon Fire HD 8 2017 Slim Shell Tri-fold Cover. Just for a quick comparison, we present the case from Fintie. It’s the same standard tri-fold design, but it comes in well over thirty colors and patterns.

Besides the plain colors, the designs are different from what other providers offer. A plenty of styles and moods to choose from. The Totoro is just the one we like most. You may disagree with our choice when you see the rest of variants. ⇢ Amazon – $16.99.

Poetic Slimline Fire HD 8 2017 Tri-fold Case. What if we put aside the colorful designs and focus on the texture? Take a closer look at the Slimline case from Poetic. The outside is made of the premium woven fabric and gives the similar rich effect as Amazon’s original case, featured later in this overview.

The case – thanks to the fact that it’s one color – is extremely stylish and has a premium look. It’s available in five colors, playing nicely with the colors of the Fire HD 8: Black, Blue, Purple, Yellow, and Red. ⇢ Amazon – $12.95.

Ccmao Heavy-duty Shockproof Case for Amazon fire HD 8 2017. Shockproof cases usually look extremely ugly and heavy. Should they always have to look like an armor?

Finally, there is a case with a feminine smooth look, while maintaining all the goodness of the solid protective shockproof case cover. The dual layer system includes the polycarbonate hard shell (inside) and the flexible, anti-slip silicone (outside).

The case comes in four colors, including Rose Red + Black shown above. ⇢ Amazon – $16.99.

Pixiu Protective Heavy-duty Fire HD 8 2017 Cover. From Pixiu comes a similar shockproof case, but with a fashionable flower pattern on the back, making it even more girl-friendly.

You can choose from three color combinations, with Black, Mint Green, and Rose Gold as dominant colors. ⇢ Amazon – $16.99.

MoKo Keyboard Case for Amazon Fire HD 8, 2017 Release. Many users consider getting a keyboard for their tablet. It makes it much easier to answer an email or type a Facebook status.

You can buy a Bluetooth keyboard separately, no matter whether you need the case for your tablet or not. The other option is to buy the case that has the built-in keyboard.

One of such cases is offered by MoKo. The Bluetooth keyboard is easily detachable, so you don’t need to keep it inside the case all the time. The keys are made like the ones in laptops, giving a tactile response with every stroke.

You can get this keyboard case in one of four colors: Black, Indigo, Lucky Tree, and Starry Night. ⇢ Amazon – $38.99.

CLND 8-inch Tablet Case. And now a few proposals for a tablet sleeve. Sleeves are less practical but extremely beautiful. The one from CLND is handcrafted from 100% natural linen fabric and is lined inside with soft cotton.

The sleeve on the picture features two interior pockets and has a pattern of an old newspaper. In a message to seller, please provide the name of the Fire HD 8 2017, and give the dimensions from the table in the beginning of this post. ⇢ Etsy – $24.99.

Gopher Handmade Tablet Sleeve. There are plenty of gorgeous felt tablet sleeves on Etsy, but we had to choose one. And the one from Gopher is stunningly different.

While most of the felt cases have light or dark gray color, this particular sleeve is not only vegan-friendly but has a marble-like white structure! Just like in many other cases available on Etsy, these sleeves are made to order, so make sure to give the details and dimensions of your Fire HD 8, and you will get the sleeve that’s exactly tailored. ⇢ Etsy – $23.99.

Pochette Gavotte Fire HD 8 Sleeve. This is probably the most elegant item in this overview. The sleeve from Pochette Gavotte is available in several colors, but we’ve picked cloudy green with charming beautiful hand-painted polka dots.

The sleeve is padded with 3 mm upholstery foam for better protection and features a natural wooden button closure on top. On the front, you’ll see a stylish Pochette Gavotte stamp. ⇢ Etsy – $26.99.

Original Amazon Fire HD 8 Case Cover, 2017 Release. Obviously, you can always get the original case from Amazon. While it’s one of the most expensive accessories in this overview, it offers the maximum compatibility with the tablet, both when it comes to features and color code.

The case is made from premium materials. The microfiber interior is pretty standard, but the material used on the outside stands out – just look how it catches the light! Plus, this case from Amazon offers an original way to use it as a stand – you fold the front cover once.

There are five colors options at hand: Canary Yellow, Charcoal Black, Cobalt Purple, Marine Blue, and Punch Red. If you consider its price as too high, you can always go for the Fire HD 8 bundle as save extra $15. ⇢ Amazon – $29.99.

DTTO Transformable Stand Cover for Fire HD 8 (2017). If you love the original Amazon case, but paying for it almost half of the tablet’s price sounds absurd, you can always go for a cheaper alternative.

The cases from DTTO were designed to be just that. The same color range and a similar folding technology – for a price that’s one-third lower. ⇢ Amazon – $17.99.

How to print an e-book

New e-reading converts might be surprised to find out that despite the fact that e-books can be read on computers, there’s no real way to print out a page for reference. In the olden days, you could just put a paperback facedown on a copier, but with e-books, it’s a little trickier.
Remember, though, that policies for the many book publishers vary, so review those policies and move forward at your own risk. Distributing copyrighted material without authorization is illegal in many countries. We do not encourage or condone the illegal duplication or distribution of copyrighted content. Before copying or distributing any e-book content, make sure you have the legal right to do so.
If your e-reader offers a Web or desktop reader, like Amazon, Kobo, Sony, and Barnes & Noble, this option is for you.

  1. Head to your e-reader’s Web site, like Barnes & Noble or Amazon. From there, launch the Web reader or desktop reader software. Amazon and Barnes & Noble, for example, have both of these options. For this tutorial we’ll use the Nook for Web reader.
  2. Open a book and find the page you want to print.
  3. Resize the browser (or desktop) window so that it matches the aspect ratio of an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper. It doesn’t have to be exact; just eyeball it.
  4. Take a screenshot of the e-book page. In Windows 7 launch the Snipping Tool, drag the cursor to outline the page, and save the screenshot. On a Mac, hit Ctrl+CMD+4 and drag the cursor to outline the page. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
  5. Open the screenshot image file and go to File > Print. In the print dialog, be sure to uncheck any settings that will stretch the image (i.e. “Fit to page.”) Also change the ink settings to print in black (not color or grayscale). Finally, hit print.
  6. Repeat this process for any other pages you want to print.

If you use the iPad as your e-reader, the process is a little simpler.

  1. Open your e-reader app, open a book, and navigate to the page you want to print.
  2. Adjust the layout to display black text on a white background. (This process will vary in every app, but usually it’s in the font adjustment menu.)
  3. Take a screenshot by holding the home button and clicking the sleep button. Do the same for any other pages you want to print.
  4. Go to the Camera Roll and hit the action button (the arrow in the upper-right) and tap to select all of the screenshots. When you’re done, tap “Share” in the upper-left, and select “E-mail.” E-mail the screenshots to yourself.
  5. Head to a computer with printer access, open the e-mail, and download the photos. Open the screenshot image files and go to File > Print. In the print dialog, be sure to uncheck any settings that will stretch the image (i.e. “Fit to page.”) Also change the ink settings to print in black (not color or grayscale). Finally, hit print.

Deal alert: save on 13 Kindle bestsellers for your summer reading list

We maintain this blog by recommending products on the web. If you buy an item by following the links in this post, we may get a small share of the revenue.

Today’s Kindle Daily Deal brings books by George R.R. Martin, Nora Roberts, Gillian Flynn, and Andy Weir.

I wish these books were featured earlier, during popular shopping events like Mother’s Day or Prime Day.

Books featured today in Kindle Daily Deal, although there are “only” 13 of them, are all-time bestsellers and many users would love to get them to their Kindles and Kindle apps at reduced prices.

First of all, in anticipation of the 7th season of HBO’s Game of Thrones TV series, which is set to air on July 16, 2017, the first book from George R.R. Martin’s saga A Song of Ice and Fire costs today only $1.99.

A bestselling novel by Andy Weir, The Martian, is not for the first time featured as a Kindle deal. Having in mind that there may be a lot of new Kindle or Fire owners – thanks to Prime Day 2017 sale – this book is a perfect addition to the growing list of titles. Today, its price is set at $3.99, instead of the regular $12.99.

The book I’ve just bought is Gillian Flynn’s suspense novel Sharp Objects. It’s available at a deal price for customers shopping from outside of the US. The novel follows a reporter Camille Preaker who returns to her hometown to report the murders of two girls. The book normally costs $12.99, but today you can grab it for $2.99 (about $3.50 for international customers).

You can also pick up today, among others, Bay of Sighs by Nora Roberts, Amy Engel’s The Roanoke Girls, and The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.

17 insanely colorful Amazon Fire 7 (2017) cases and sleeves

We maintain this blog by recommending products on the web. If you buy an item by following the links in this post, we may get a small share of the revenue.

Brighten your life with the Fire 7 tablet, and brighten your Fire 7 tablet with one of these cheerful cases, covers, and sleeves.

In June 2017, Amazon refreshed two Fire tablets: Fire 7 and Fire HD 8. The real changes were made to the smaller, 7-inch tablet.

Having the same price as the 5th-generation model released in 2015 ($49.99), Amazon Fire 7 (2017) has a slightly better screen. Most importantly, it is thinner and lighter than its predecessor.

Compared to the 2015 Fire 7, the depth of the all-new Fire 7 was reduced from 10.6 mm to 9.6 mm, making it impossible to reuse the hardshell case from the older model. The weight of the new model is also smaller. The 2017 Kindle Fire 7 has 10.4 oz (295 g), instead of 11 oz (313 g).

The weight of the 2017 Fire 7 combined with the considerable reduction in depth should give the impression that the new tablet is much lighter than the one from 2015.

A unique feature of Amazon’s Fire tablets is a range of bright colors. Compared to cyan and magenta, the new colors are bold and bright, but they are much warmer.

Amazon Fire dimensions ( height × width × depth )

Model Inches Millimeters
Amazon Fire 7 (2017) 7.60 × 4.50 × 0.38 192 × 115 × 9.6
Amazon Fire 7 (2015) 7.50 × 4.50 × 0.40 191 × 115 × 10.6
Amazon Fire HD 7 (2014) 7.52 × 5.04 × 0.42 191 × 128 × 10.6
Kindle Fire HDX 7 (2013) 7.32 × 5.04 × 0.35 186 × 128 × 9.0

In the overview below, we’ll not only show the cases available in the Fire Tablet Accessories Store on Amazon website. We’ve also added the best examples from Etsy and eBay – all bright and evoking nothing but pure joy!

When purchasing the case, no matter whether it’s Amazon or any other site, double check whether it’s designed for the Fire tablet launched in 2017. You should look for keywords like “7th generation,” or “2017 release.”

If you find “5th generation,” it means the case was designed for the previous model released in 2015. Again, the case for the old model will not fit the new one!

Where to buy covers for the 2017 Fire 7 tablet?

Hungry to see more cases and sleeves for your new Fire 7 tablet? Below, you’ll find other destinations that are worth checking out:

Best cases and sleeves for Amazon Fire 7 (2017 release)

Poetic Slimline Amazon Fire 7 2017 Tri-Fold Smart Cover. Are you looking for an affordable lightweight case that works similarly to Apple’s Smart Cover? Take a look at Poetic Slimline tri-fold design – you can fold the front cover to form the stand, both for horizontal (typing) and vertical (viewing) position.

Just like in the Smart Cover, you can close the case to put the device to sleep, and open it to wake. The magnetic closure keeps the case securely shut, while the soft microfiber interior prevents the screen from scratches.

The outside is made of the premium fabric, giving the same feel as the original Fire 7 case from Amazon. There are five colors to choose. Besides Yellow featured above, you can pick up Black, Purple, Blue (my favorite), and Red. ⇢ Amazon – $12.95.

Avawo Slim Shell Smart Case for Fire 7 (2017). The great thing about Fire 7 tablets is their bright colors. The parts of the device will be visible from below the case, to give access to ports and buttons. And it’s where the fun begins: you can play with the colors!

You can obviously buy the case in the same color as the tablet’s, but that’s too obvious, don’t you think? Go creative and find your unique color combination. The case from Avawo offers the same design as Poetic but in different colors. Plus, the back shell has a black frame, what makes it an attention-catching accessory.

What colors can you choose? Sky Blue, Green, Magenta/Rose, Black, Purple, and Navy. ⇢ Amazon – $9.99.

Original Case Cover for the 7th generation Amazon Fire. The first thing you do after adding the new device to cart is checking out original accessories. Just like for the previous generation, Amazon has released an original case cover in colors that match the available colors of the tablet itself.

Compared to the Poetic case mentioned above, the original case for the Fire 7 tablet released in 2017 (the 7th generation) is twice as expensive. You can transform it into a stand by folding the front cover. Obviously, it supports the sleep/wake function and gives easy access to all ports and buttons.

An extremely bright range of colors includes Canary Yellow, Charcoal Black, Cobalt Purple, Marine Blue, and Punch Red. ⇢ Amazon – $24.99.

Famavala Amazon Fire 7 2017 Folio Case. The next level when it comes to fun in finding a perfect case for the Fire 7 is pick up bright, colorful designs, instead of plain colors.

Look at the folio cases from Famavala. They open like a book and have a built-in stand. They have a soft interior to prevent the display from scratches. They even have a pen holder.

Most importantly, however, they come in eight insanely colorful and positive designs. Blue Sky, Colstar (shown above as major picture), Sun Flower, Tree Bird… Don’t tell me you don’t love them! ⇢ Amazon – $11.99.

Colorful Slim Tri-fold Cover for Fire 7 (2017). Want to see more options for colors, patterns, and designs? Why not switching for a while to eBay, where you can find freshly made cases offered directly by producers from China.

The range of colors in this design is huge. We love especially the Geometric variant, but you’ll find here dozens of others. What’s more, the current price is well below $10, so if you are looking for deals, eBay is a great destination to check out. ⇢ eBay – $6.99.

Dtto Tri-fold Slim Cover for Amazon Fire 7. Here is the next proposal for an Apple-style smart cover for your new 7-inch Fire tablet. The case has a typical tri-fold design that lets transform it into a viewing or typing stand. It supports auto wake/sleep feature. Air cushion technology and honeycomb pattern provide better shock absorption.

Available in five Fire 7 compatible color options: Black, Canary Yellow, Cobalt Purple, Marine Blue, Punch Red. This case is a simple alternative to the original Amazon case. ⇢ Amazon – $19.99.

Fintie Slim Keyboard Case for Fire 7. And, finally, if you are looking specifically for the keyboard case, Fintie, one of the most popular case brands, has already released the design for the 2017 Amazon Fire tablet.

The case, known so well from previous generations, connects via Bluetooth and works within 10 meters from the tablet. Yes, the keyboard is detachable, so you can take it out from the case when you don’t need it. The keys are real, just like in a laptop, and offer a tactile response with every stroke.

Besides the extended functionality, this Fire 7 keyboard case comes in five colors, not just a dull black. You can pick up Blossom, Don’t Touch, or Love Tree. ⇢ Amazon – $39.99.

ProCase Vintage Folio Stand Case for Amazon Fire 7. A stylish folio case from ProCase has the feel of a vintage book. It combines a solid protection with a stylish look. On the outside, you’ll see the premium-quality faux leather, while the interior is lined with a soft microfiber.

Multiple slots let position the stand in a range of angles, not just two. Unlike other folio cases, you’ll find here a large exterior pocket for documents and papers. There is also a stylus loop. And you know what? The stylus comes as well! ⇢ Amazon – $18.99.

Poetic Slim Folio Amazon Fire 7 (2017) Case. Take a closer look at this folio case from Poetic. It’s made of the premium faux leather and can be used as a stand in two positions: horizontal and vertical. You can use a hand strap for easy one handed use (perfect for reading ebooks).

There are two things that make the case stand out. The first detail is the soft material used for the interior. It has a geometric pattern that adds quality to the case. There is also a little grip-like area on the edge of the case and the back. ⇢ eBay – $10.95.

Blu Case White Linen Fire 7 2017 Sleeve. Have you ever thought of giving your Fire tablet a different kind of protection? What if you need to protect the device only when carrying it? A sleeve is something worth considering.

And when you start exploring the sleeves, the choice becomes almost endless. Our favorite place for tablet sleeves is Blu Case. The sleeves are made of light and durable handmade linen and have a 5mm lightweight foam to protect your tablet from scratches, bumps, and grime.

You can choose from dozens of different colors. When making an order, select “Fire 7” from a drop-down menu, or message the shop owner with the name and dimensions of your Fire tablet. ⇢ Etsy – $11.95.

Julia Cute Kindle Fire Cute Pet Sleeve. If you want something cute in touch and look, a proper sleeve is almost ideal.

No case would go that far as this awesome sleeve hand-crafted by Julia Cute. It’s made of three layers: smooth inside lining, fleece for softness and safety cover, and a beautiful decorative fabric on the outside.

You can order the sleeve in one of three design options: Cat, Bear, or Bunny. I know you’ll have problems picking up the cutest one! When placing an order, select “custom made size” and provide the dimensions of the Fire 7 tablet. ⇢ Etsy – $31.90.

Petite Le Ru Sleeve for Fire 7 Tablet. This insanely beautiful tablet sleeve is crocheted in Bulgaria from soft and strong blended cotton. It closes with a lovely plastic rainbow button and a loop.

In a Petite Le Ru shop on Etsy, you’ll find lots of other designs, not only the Rainbow shown above. In a message to seller, please provide the dimensions of the Fire 7. ⇢ Etsy – $33.90.

Jiu Jiu Colorful Cotton Sleeve for 7-inch Tablets. What about a simple sleeve made of solid cotton canvas fabric in a bright color. Jiu Jiu offers them on Etsy.

The sleeve has a charcoal colored lining inside, is well padded in between, and closes with velcro. You can choose from several main colors, including Mustard, Neon Orange, or Blue. ⇢ Etsy – $17.99.

Felt Bag World Colored Felt Sleeve for 7-inch Tablets. The list of tablet cases wouldn’t be complete with the felt sleeve. And as the main hero of this Fire 7 overview is color, we present the colored felt sleeves from Felt Bag World.

The sleeve has a large external pocket for essentials. You can choose from as much as 21 felt colors. ⇢ Etsy – $26.99.

Swees Slim & Protective Fire 7 Smart Cover. Quite frankly, so far I haven’t seen so many so colorful case designs for a single device, even for the most popular tablets such as the iPad. Here is the next range of cover art. This time it comes from the designers working for Swees.

The Swees cover offers the same functionality as all other tri-fold cases featured in this overview. It’s superbly slim, has a durable back shell with precise cutouts for ports and buttons.

But what makes the case incredibly attractive is the selection of colors and patterns. There are as much as sixteen variants to choose from. Let’s start with the plain colors that fit the colors of the Fire 7. Then we’ll see the modern artwork suitable for kids and adults: Aurora, Dazzling Youth, Freedom, Galaxy, or Midnight in Paris. ⇢ Amazon – $13.99.

Detuosi Ultra Slim Smart Case for Fire 7. Hungry for even more designs and patterns? Check out the slim and lightweight case from Detuosi.

You can choose from almost thirty variants. You’ll find here the Gold and Rose Gold color (not so popular for Fire 7). You’ll find geometric patterns, painting-style art, or art inspired by nature. ⇢ Amazon – $15.99.

Fintie Slim Standing Case for All-new Amazon Fire 7 (2017). From Fintie comes the last case in our overview – an ultra slim and lightweight tri-fold case with a built-in stand and sleep/wake support.

The functionality of the case is similar to other smart covers, but what we love about Fintie is a wide range of colors and designs that will suit all needs and tastes. The good thing is that the most popular designs and patterns are used again in newer-generation models.

And the same happens with the Fire 7 case. We’ve seen All Nighter, Composition Book, Moroccan Love, or Indigo Dreams for the 2015 7-inch Amazon Fire tablet. And they are back for the 2017 release! ⇢ Amazon – $9.99.

How to cancel Kindle Unlimited subscription

We maintain this blog by recommending products on the web. If you buy an item by following the links in this post, we may get a small share of the revenue.

Are you a Kindle Unlimited member but want to cancel the subscription? Here is how to do it.

Kindle Unlimited is a digital subscription service giving unlimited access to over 1.6 million ebooks from the Kindle Store, as well as graphic novels, comics, and digital magazines.

The service is offered by Amazon, and it’s the Amazon website where you can sign up and cancel it.

Many users are getting interested in Kindle Unlimited, as it sounds like a fantastic deal. Having a chance to read as many books as I can for $9.99 per month? Yes, please!

What’s more, you can sign up for Kindle Unlimited with a click of a button and test the new service for free for 30 days. Therefore, many users join the service without doing basic research. There is plenty of time to test Kindle Unlimited before the first payment date, right?

How to end Kindle Unlimited membership, what are the conditions, what you have to keep in mind? You’ll find the answers below.

Cancel Kindle Unlimited – step by step

1. Go to website (or an Amazon website where you’ve signed up for Kindle Unlimited, such as or

2. On the right side of the top navigation bar, locate the link to your Amazon account settings. It starts with “Hello, [Your name],” followed by “Account & Lists.”

3. When you move your mouse over it, you’ll see a drop-down menu. Find “Your Kindle Unlimited” and click it.

4. You’ll see Manage your Kindle Unlimited Membership page. It’s where you can see all the details of your subscription:

  • when you started it,
  • the kind of the membership (the plan you chose),
  • the date of the next billing,
  • payment settings and an option to edit them,
  • an option to stop the subscription.

To cancel your Kindle Unlimited subscription, find “Manage Membership” section at the bottom, and click “Cancel Kindle Unlimited Membership.”

5. In the last step, you’ll be given a choice between continuing and ending the membership.

To cancel Kindle Unlimited subscription, click “End Membership on [Date]” button on the right side.

From now on, your credit card won’t be charged for prolonging the Kindle Unlimited subscription. You will, however, have full access to the catalog of Kindle Unlimited eligible books until the end date of the membership.

Cancel Kindle Unlimited – things to know

Here are the things you should know about the conditions of stopping Kindle Unlimited subscription. It’s good to know them… before you start the membership.

You won’t be charged if you cancel Kindle Unlimited during the free trial

Normally, if you join Kindle Unlimited, you have 30 days to try the service. Your credit card will be charged 30 days after your sign up. It means that if you cancel the service anytime during the free trial period, you won’t pay a penny for the service.

You won’t get refund for the rest of the paid period

Ending the Kindle Unlimited means the subscription won’t be renewed, but don’t expect to get a refund.

When you decide to keep the subscription, your credit card will be automatically charged at the end of a current period to continue the subscription.

If you cancel Kindle Unlimited in the middle of the current billing period, you won’t get a refund for the remaining days. Instead, your subscription will be active until the end of the period.

When you choose a monthly plan, it doesn’t seem to be a big problem. Things are different when you decide to pick up one of the longer plans: 6, 12, or 24 months.

For instance, if you had bought a 24-month plan, and decide to cancel the subscription after four months, you won’t get a refund for the remaining 20 months.

There is no free trial in Kindle Unlimited deal

From time to time, on Black Friday, Prime Day, and a few other occasions, Amazon offers deals on Kindle Unlimited where you can save even 40% (here is the example for Prime Day 2017 Kindle Unlimited deal. The longer plan you choose, the bigger discount you get.

The trick is that the plans for Kindle Unlimited deals are “pre-paid.” It means that when you sign up for the service, you won’t have a 30-day free trial – your credit card will be charged immediately.

Therefore, think twice before buying the subscription via the deal page. You’ll pay from $44.95 (6-month plan) to $143.85 (24-month plan) immediately after you sign up, and you won’t get a refund if you realize after a couple of days that Kindle Unlimited is not for you.
